Lula (She's My Bass)
This is a rather controversial project. In music and lyrics. At first glance, everything looks vulgar. But this is only at first glance. Mixing funk bass with heavy, almost metallic drums and dry saxophone, I experienced incredible pleasure. This is an experiment that showed me the validity of minimal arrangements. I did not feel emptiness. As if something was missing. Plus, I decided that lyrics and a topline were needed. My dear friend Celival De Jesus played and recorded the saxophone part. From sunny El Salvador. Whom I met through the Internet. A great professional, a magnificent multi-instrumentalist. Lockdown is not a good thing, but it allowed me to establish some connections in the industry. The recording went very quickly. Mixing and mastering took a long time. Only because during the quarantine everyone was stuck at home. And getting to the studio became more difficult. What is this song about? About love, of course. About a man’s love for a woman, expressed through the prism of the bass guitar. That’s what the lyrics became, too. Tender, but daring. Intoxicating, but biting, sobering. Romantic, but not naive. Sexy, but not vulgar. And most importantly, honest. I madly hate fakes. Hypocrisy is a trait of weak people. It’s easier to lie or not say what you feel or think. I always admire openness and honesty in people. Why pretend? As in most of my musical journeys, I try to get by with the bare minimum. Bass, Saxophone, Drums. Well, and the vocals. That’s enough. A little about who and to whom this is for. Of course, for loved ones. For those with whom there is chemistry. For those with whom you don’t need to find the keys. For those with whom even silence is an intimate, subtle pleasure.
